Anxiety
Anxiety counselling for people who would like to feel more calm, less stressed and/or more secure.
In any one year, over 2 million people in Australia have anxiety and 45% of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. Anxiety can appear during times of stress and worry and normally pass once the stressful situation has been resolved. However, anxiety is when those anxious feelings don’t go away and you find it difficult to cope with day to day life. The sooner you identify you might be struggling with anxiety, the more likely you will be able to implement strategies to help you recover and manage those anxious feelings.
Will anxiety counselling help my anxiety?
The best thing you can do when experiencing anxiety is to feel comfortable enough to discuss your thoughts and worries. With a trained psychologist they will help you identify and implement strategies that you can use in your day to day life. Anxiety also stems from underlying issues and highlighting these trigger points can help you to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Our anxiety counselling approach includes:
- Educating you on the physical causes and symptoms of anxiety.
- Showing you how to implement relaxation and breathing control strategies to reduce the level of anxiety you may experience.
- Implement cognitive therapy to help you better understand the role your thoughts play in creating anxious feelings.
- Identifying anxiety provoking situations and establishing gradual exposure to help you overcome it.
- Teaching you how to implement mindfulness techniques into your day to day life.
- Finding resolutions to the underlying cause of your anxiety.
Why choose A resolution Applecross anxiety counselling?
Anxiety can appear in many different ways. For some it is a direct reaction to a specific situation (e.g. exposure to needles or flying on a plane). For others anxiety presents itself after a stressful and traumatic experience such as a death, injury, affair or abuse. While some anxiety involves persistent thoughts or worries that won’t leave the mind and can include disruptive and repetitive behaviours like checking doors and windows.
Anxiety normally has an underlying cause and this can be identified through ongoing sessions with a trained psychologist from A resolution, Applecross. Our therapists are trained in many forms of anxiety including generalised anxiety disorder, phobias, trauma and social anxiety.
All of our therapists are registered psychologists with experience in a range of therapeutic techniques including cognitive-behavioural therapy, psycho educational tools, mindfulness and interpersonal therapies.
