Do you want to improve your relationship?
Do you want to reconnect with your partner?
Do you want to resolve your differences?
If you want to bring harmony and connection back to your relationship then you might want to consider the benefits of Marriage Counselling. This might even be something you have been thinking about for some time. If you are unable to move past your differences’ then it might be time to seek the expertise of a professional marriage counsellor.
Can Marriage Counselling make a difference to my relationship?
Yes, it can. Seeking outside help to resolve your differences can be the answer to your prayers. When you’re stuck facing the same problems, seeking outside help and intervention might be necessary to see you through to the other side.
Our goal is to work with you as individuals as well as together to reconnect and resolve your differences, giving you the opportunity to work through and face the challenges ahead.
We recommend you give marriage counselling a try before giving up on your relationship. It may not fix all your problems, but you can certainly reach a better understanding and be able to learn strategies to enable you to better communicate with your partner.
The best part about Marriage Counselling is that you enter into a neutral space. You can feel calm and free to voice your concerns, feelings and needs. Working with a trained Psychologist from A resolution Applecross, in Perth’s South, means finding common ground and working towards resolving your ongoing issues.

- Creating shared meaning

What happens in Marriage Counselling session?
Once you have found the courage to seek a marriage counsellor and ask for help we then meet with you and your partner together for your first session. For the second session we meet with you both individually. These initial sessions are about understanding your personal and relationship history, the difficulties you are facing and the goals you want to achieve through the counselling process.
Both our Relationship Counselling Psychologists are approved members of the Gottman Relationship Check Up assessment service. This means they can provide you with an in-depth assessment of your relationship strengths and areas for development to assist with your relationship counselling plan.
What type of Marriage Counselling therapy do you use?
Gottman method therapy, cognitive behavioural couple therapy and interpersonal therapy will all be available to use during your marriage counselling journey. Feel free to contact our Applecross office (South of Perth) to find out more information about the method we use.
How long are the sessions?
The first session that forms part of your assessment and goal setting is 1hr and 20 mins in duration. The next one to two intervention sessions are generally 50 minutes each. From that point, you have a choice to continue with 50 minute sessions or 1hr and 20 minute sessions.
Most couples attend between 8 and 24 hours of therapy across a 12-18 month period. Contact our Applecross Office located South of Perth’s CBD, to make a marriage counselling session.
Can I get a rebate for Marriage Counselling?
There are two types of consideration for rebates including Medicare rebates and Private Health Fund rebates. If you have a diagnosed mental health condition such as anxiety or depression and your G.P accepts that interpersonal therapy is a suitable method for intervention you may receive a Medicare Rebate. Private health rebates may apply for Psychological services, but we recommend checking with your health provider first.
