Unami has over 12 years experience in counselling and has developed her relationship and family counselling skills during her time at Relationships Australia. Unami has experience with couple conflict, trust issues, family challenges and parenting.
Unami uses Gottman Method therapy to help couples improve communication, conflict, connection and understanding.
Unami has significant experience in domestic violence and anger management programs in private practice and government settings.
Working with teens
Unami has well developed skills with teens over her 12 years in private practice and government settings. She can work with suicidal ideation, bulling, self harm, self-esteem issues and more.
Workplace Injuries/ Work Cover/Criminal Injuries
Within the injury management and vocational rehabilitation area Unami has experience in assessment and co-ordination of return-to-work services. Unami is also experienced with criminal injury reports and treatment.
Trauma and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Unami has significant experience working with people experiencing PTSD or anxiety as the result of trauma.
Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA Counselling)
Unami offers DVA counselling to Veterans that hold a DVA WHITE or GOLD card are entitled to around 10 government funded sessions per year with no financial cost to yourself. Gold Card Holders may have more sessions available to them. He has significant experience in individual counselling for veterans.
Unami is a dynamic psychologist trained in a wide range of therapies including mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema-focused therapy, person-centered therapy and existential psychology.
Do you need a referral to see Unami Magwenzi?
No referral is needed to see Unami. However with a referral from your GP (mental health care plan), you can claim a Medicare rebate of $126.85 per session.
If you choose not to use a plan you may be able to use your private health. To determine if you are eligible for a private health rebate, please contact your private health provider, as this is varies depending on your level of cover.
When is Unami available for sessions?
Unami is available at the practice Monday to Friday 9 am to 6.30 pm
