Anxiety

Laima has experience treating a range of anxiety concerns, including social anxiety, generalised anxiety, PTSD and OCD. She uses an integrative CBD approach including cognitive-behavioural, graded exposure, mindfulness and relaxation skill-building.

Depression

Laima has worked with a variety of clients presenting with depression concerns. She uses an integrative CBD and IPT approach which explores both current and historical contributing factors, exploring and challenging relevant schemas and building holistic resilience opportunities to reintroduce meaning and purpose to our lives.

PTSD, Trauma/Significant Stress

The experience of trauma or significant stressful events on children, adolescence and adults can be devastating on one’s ability to cope with daily life.  There may be a chronic sense of helplessness, panic or anxiety that persists despite your efforts to manage the symptoms.  These experiences can be linked via the neural network of images, thoughts and emotions associated with single or multiple trauma’s and can be triggered when experiencing similar situations or events.  EMDR together with mindful CBT and ACT techniques provides a highly recommended evidence based treatment for the resolution of these experiences.  Trained in EMDR Laima can work with you to map and process the interplay of emotion, core beliefs or thoughts and triggering events/experiences whilst supporting you to apply effective coping and management skills for distress.

Self esteem

Laima has worked with a wide range of clients with concerns regarding self-esteem. Laima enjoys adopting an existentialist-humanistic approach, integrated with CBT, IPT and ACT approaches, to support clients in challenging unhelpful self-talk and taking steps toward building meaning and purpose in their lives.

Couples, Marriage and Relationship Counselling

Laima has experience working with couples using the Gottman Relationship House model, Laima explores the couple’s communication patterns, builds insight into the experiences of each person, and explores relationship goals and values used to build shared meaning.

What to expect

Some Laima’s clients have a shorter journey (10 sessions) while many see her for around 20 or more sessions (anxiety/depression) and others see her for longer for the formal work and ongoing for maintenance. Most people need around 12 to 20 sessions. For families, trauma or play therapy we will most definitely have over 16 sessions for the year and some of the mentioned issues may require more (you can discuss this with Laima in session).
